Rav Chananel Rosen - rabbi of Yakar Tel-Aviv and director of Yakar Institutions
Studied at a broad range of Yeshivot (including the Hesder Yeshiva in Yeruham, Mir Yeshiva in Mea Shearim, Yeshivat Siach-Yitzhak and Yeshivat Tekoa). He received his rabbinical ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and served in a combat unit in the IDF within the Hesder framework.
Rav Chananel studied meditation techniques in India over a period of months, has a degree in psychology and English literature from the Hebrew University, and is currently completing his Master’s thesis on the topic of the interface between internal Halakhic discourse in the 19th century and external socio-cultural influences. Rav Chananel is married to Miriam and has three children.
Yahav Sa'ar is from Massuot Yitzack and serves in the navy in the Kiriya - Tel Aviv. She is a graduate of the Mechinat "Elial": the Israeli female pre-army leadership program in Be'er Sheva. She loves learning and meeting new people from across the spectrum of Israeli society. Yahav coordinates the Yakar Beit-Midrash for Chayalim alongside Yovel.
Elishav Rabinowitz is the program and events coordinator at Yakar Tel Aviv. He teaches Tanakh and Talmud to youth and adults in a number of frameworks and he is on the staff of the Lev LaDaat project of the Ministry of Education. Elishav graduated from Yeshivat Tekoa and Beit Morasha. He has a B.A. in education and an M.A. in Talmud. Elishav is married to Maayan and they have four daughters.
Yovel Levi comes from the Yishuv "Moreshet" in the Lower Galilee. At present she serves in an intelligence unit of the air-force in the Kiriya. Yovel is a graduat of "Beit Midrash for Women-Migdal Oz". Together with Yahav she coordinates the Yakar Beit Midrash for Chayalim.
Rabbanit Gilla Rosen
Rabbanit Gilla Rosen is the Dean of Yakar. She was born in the United States and has been involved in Jewish education for over 30 years. She has a B.A. in English literature from Columbia University and an M.A. in comparative literature from the University of Manchester. Since making Aliyah in 1992, Gilla has taught at a number of institutions including Nishmat, Pardes and Yakar. She was also head of Beit Midrash Lindenbaum from 2002-2003. Rabbanit Gilla is a lecturer in a number of institutions and serves as a Halakhic Advisor for women (answering calls on the Nishmat Women’s Halakhic Hotline). Gilla is an engaging and multidimensional teacher who has taught a wide range of subjects including Midrash, Halakha and Tanakh. She is best known for her outstanding ability as a Talmud teacher.
Rav Chen Sarig
Rav Chen Sarig is a graduate of Yeshivat Ein Tsurim and has rabbinical ordination. He is active in Tzohar, teaches in the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva in Raanana and answers Halakhic questions as part of Beit Hahoraah Shaarei Halakha UMishpat. He has taught in a range of places where he has explored all facets of Halakha: Kashrut, personal status, marriage and the development of Halakha. He has also taught Jewish thought and Parshat HaShavua. Rav Chen has been giving a series of popular classes at Yakar on Halakha for the last fiveyears. He is a fantastic guide and mentor, and helps his students find clarity in the complex and amazing world of Halakha.
Tehila Wenger is a Master's student in the Aba Eben Program in Diplomatic Studies at Tel Aviv University. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Princeton University in 2015 and moved to Tel Aviv as a Dorot fellow immediately afterward. Tehila leads a weekly chaburah at Yakar Tel Aviv on Biblical stories that appear to condone or command killing in extralegal frameworks.
